This is my late father's recipe. He made this a lot when I was growing up.I always liked it when I got a chance to eat some of it.He usually ate the whole thing before anybody knew that it was done-lol- Smile

    GERMAN KUCHEN

    2 pkgs dry yeast
    1/3 c.sugar
    1 3/4 tsp salt
    1 egg
    1/8 tsp nutmeg
    1/2 c.butter
    1 1/2 c.warm water
    1/3 c.melted shortening
    5 1/2 c.flour
    1 c.brown sugar
    1 tsp cinnamon
    2 tsp soft butter

Add yeast to warm water in large mixing bowl. Stir until dissolved.Add sugar, salt, melted butter and egg.Gradually add flour and nutmeg to yeast mixture.Mix well and cover with a damp cloth cover.Let rise until doubled, punch down and turn onto floured board.Divide into 3 parts and place each in 3 different 9 inch greased baking pans.Let rise again until doubled.Melt 1/2 c.butter and spread over all 3 kuchens with back of spoon. With fingers, press in holes one inch apart over all kuchens.Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and soft butter. If you like a little more or less topping, then increase or decrease these ingredients to fit your tastes.Divide evenly over kuchens.Bake in 325 degree oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
