    GINGERSNAPS

    3/4 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1/4 c. molasses
    2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
    2 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. ground ginger
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. ground cloves
    1/2 tsp. salt

    Cream shortening, gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add egg and molasses, mix well. Combine flour, soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Add to creamed mixture, mixing until well-blended. Chill dough. Shape dough into 1-inch balls, roll in sugar. Place 2-inches apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375* for 8-10 minutes. Makes 4 dozen
