This is T&T by my neighbor who is a good baker. Thought I would test it out on the board. She says it is very delicious. If it is that good I will bake it for my daughters meeting on Friday.

Any one try it, please let me know what it tastes like.

    Hawaiian Sunset Cake

I box supreme orange cake mix (Duncan Hines)
    4 eggs
    3 oz. instant vanilla pudding
    3 oz. orange gelatin
    1/2 cup oil
    1 & 1/2 cups whole milk

15 oz. crushed pineapple, drained very well
    12 oz. frozen coconut
    8 oz. sour cream
    2 cups sugar

    1 cup filling mixture
    8 oz. cool whip

    Mix all cake ingredients together
Beat for 3 minutes on medium speed
Pour into 3 - 9 inch greased & floured cake pans
Bake a 350 (preheated) for 30 minutes, or until it tests done.
    Cool the layers

Take a spoon and remove as much liquid as possible from the pineapple
Mix all ingredients well. Take out one cup of this mixture and reserve for topping recipe. Spread the filling between layers and on top of cake

    Mix topping ingredients together.
Spread on sides and top of cake.
    Keep this cake refrigerated

I was not able to find a DH Orange Supreme Cake Mix so I bought a white one and added 1 tsp orange extract to the batter. Tastes wonderful. I also used bagged coconut as I can never find frozen coconut and I added about 20 chopped maraschino cherries to the filling (after you take the one cup out to mix with the topping). The last time I made this I added chopped pecans.

I'm making this cake tomorrow and I could not find a Supreme Orange cake mix no where.......I've made this before and never substituted the cake mix. I bought a DH White Cake mix and was wondering if I should add some orange extract to the cake to give it the orange flavor?

I am so mad that I can never find this flavor cake........they had pineapple, coconut, strawberry, lemon, spice and everything else and I even went to 3 stores.

What do you think? About a tsp of flavoring??

Sorry, I had forgotton about my own thread/post regarding this cake Lol, lol, lol.

I have since made this cake several times and it was very delicious! I have also made it in sheet cake pan.

Your photos of the cake look soooooooooooo moist and delicious!

I, too, can't find certain DH cake mixes here in California. I seach constantly for the DH Butter Fudge reccipe cake mix but have never found it, but I have had luck with the orange.

I am going to add/try the cherries next time I bake it.

This cake never lasted long in my house, and I made the sheet version for a shower. Everyone asked for the recipe

It looks dreadful. For your own safety I think you should send the remainder to me.

Ruby, the cost to ship it to Canada would be prohibitive. I think she should send it to me instead.

All kidding aside, this cake sounds absolutely wonderful, and I'm going to make it later this month. It's our turn to host dessert and coffee after dinner out with a few friends, and this will knock their socks off. Thanks for posting the recipe, fatkat.

Now that is one cake flavor I don't think I've seen either. Sounds really good.
