  • Mott's Applesauce Cake

I found this recipe in a magazine from 1992. It is a very moist cake that does not use eggs yolks or oil. I usually frost this one with a fluffy chocolate frosting or it is also good with a sprinkling of powder sugar ~ fatkat

    MOTT'S APPLESAUCE CAKE

    3 egg whites
1/3 cup natural applesauce (not the kind with sugar added)
    1-1/4 cups water
Yellow, Lemon or White boxed cake mix

Preheat oven to 350. Spray two 9-inch round cake pans or a 13x9x2 pan with cooking spray. Mix boxed cake mix, water, applesauce and egg whites in a large bowl with electric mixer on low speed just until moistened and then beat for 2 minutes on high. Pour half the batter in each 9" pan or in the 13x9x2 pan. Bake 30-40 minutes or until done. Cool in pan on a rack and then remove. When completely cool, frost with frosting or dust with powdered sugar.
