Peanut Patties
(One of these cost only 5 cents back in the day)
3 & 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup evaporated milk
4 T. margarine
2/3 cups white Karo syrup
1 & 1/2 cups raw, shelled peanuts
1 cup powdered sugar
A few drops red food coloring
Combine sugar, Karo syrup, milk and peanuts in a hevay pan. Cook slowly until a small amount forms a soft ball when dropped into cool water (soft ball stage) Add margarine & powdered sugar. Mix well. Add red food coloring to desired color. Mix well. Drop by tablespoonfuls on to waxed paper. If you want a large patty pour into a buttered foil pie pan.
Allow to cool & set.
