Pulled this one off "Epicurian.com" and is AMAZING!!!!So good, we may have to do that smeary thing with food on skin!!
1 lb lean gr beef
1 lb ground lamb
1T dried oregano
3/4t onion powder
1t garlic powder
1/2t ground pepper
1/2t dried thyme
1/2t salt
Mix all ingredients. Shape into 8 thin patties. Can grill, broil or fry in bit of olive oil.
Tzadiki Sauce
1c plain yoghurt
1 med cucumber- seeded, peeled and grated
1/4c minced onion (I omited from mine)
1t olive oil
2 cloved garlic pressed
s/p to taste
1/4-1/2t dried dill
Toss cucumber into cheese cloth and squeeze out as much water as you can. Mix all ingredients and set aside.
Chop fresh ripe tomato, and build sandwich on pita bread.
8 servings
Note: If pita is w/o pocket in it, shape the patties in cigar shape, then proceed.
