    Polish Cabbage and Noodles
    (from allrecipes.com)

    1 medium head shredded cabbage
2 red onions, cut into strips
    1/2 cup butter
1 (16 ounce) package wide egg noodles
    salt to taste
    ground black pepper to taste

Cook pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water. Meanwhile, heat butter or margarine in a skillet over medium heat. Saute cabbage and onions until tender. Drain pasta, and return to the pot. Add cabbage and onion mixture to the noodles, and toss. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

I made this tonight; I used a whole mayan sweet onion in place of the red onions but that was the only change I made. This was a really good side dish to fresh polish sausage.

I love cabbage and noodles and this is pretty much how I make them too. I will have to try it with the sour cream - sounds delicious.

I aways add some minced garlic to mine and extra butter.

I have also added my sausage either fresh Polish or even Smoked Sausage to the cabbage and onions when I cook it. It's fantastic.

Savannah - How much sour cream do you add? That does sound interesting.

You know what else is really good - don't stop cooking the cabbage when it gets tender.. let it go until it carmelizes.. delicous..

Halushki is one of our favorites, we love it with Kielbasa and pierogies.
Your right Kiop, it's delicious when it's carmelized!

                      Re: Polish Cabbage and Noodles

I know this may gross some of you out, but I fry my cabbage noodles in lard instead of butter. It makes such a difference in the taste. My family can't get enough of it when I make it.
Also, prior to sauteing my cabbage, I salt it pretty good and let it set for an hour. Then I squeeze out all the water and saute it in the hot lard. When the cabbage gets golden brown, I add medium cooked shells and lots of black pepper.
