  • Making canned green beans taste better

This is more of a tip than a recipe. If you ever use canned green beans from the grocery store, and you hate the taste, here is something my mom taught me to make them taste fresher:

a little bit of OLIVE OIL!!! It makes an amazing difference. (I also add some chicken bouillon granules or cubes.) You will have to simmer them a couple of hours.

I typically use about 1 T. olive oil and 1 bouillon cube per 15 oz can.

      The kids love these
take a can of green beans and drain.
In a small fry pan add a 1/4 of a stick of butter and melt. Add some can bread crumbs and stir until they begin to brown. Now add the drained beans and stir until the beans are coated with the mixture and nice and warm.

I cook some bacon, add a chopped onion, saute that till transluscent, add some garlic, a tablespoon or so of brown sugar, salt and pepper to taste and enough water to just be visible at the top of the beans. I use this recipe with any green beans from canned to frozen to fresh. I could eat a gallon of them cooked this way.
