    I recently ate at the texas roadhouse and had a baked potato. It seemed as though the potato had been rolled in seasoning or salt or something. It made the skin delicious. Anyone have any idea what they do to their potatoes or how to make something similar?

    The baked potato is coated in salt and bacon grease, however the sweet potato is not. I worked at TRH for almost a year in college .

    Texas Roadhouse Potato Recipe

    This is a recipe I formulated that is fashioned after the baked potatoes at Texas Roadhouse in Gainesville FL. not exactly the same, but pretty close and ridiculously easy!

    50 min | 5 min prep

    SERVES 2 , 1 potato

    sea salt or kosher salt (enough to cover potato)
    2 large baking potatoes (with the skin on)
    bacon fat


    Lay out 2 pieces of foil onto a flat surface. The foil should be enough to cover each potato.
    Wash potato skins thouroughly and dry them, dip in rendered bacon fat, place the potatoes onto each piece of foil and cover in sea salt. Wrap and bake in a 425 degree oven for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
    Make it a loaded potato and top it with sour cream, cheddar cheese, chives, bacon (crumbled), and Mrs. Dash original seasoning for a really great baked potato, or eat it as is. Either way, it's delicious!

        I just did this the other day camping...........I put butter all over the skin (after giving the spud a good scrub!) and put McCormicks salt grinder salt all over it, wrapped it in foil, gave it a few piercings with a fork and baked it in a 350 oven until very fork tender. I kept saying 'These are the best taters I've ever made!"

          The reason baked potatoes are delicious at good steak houses is that they cook them fresh and continually throughout the evening. Wrapping a spud in foil does nothing more than to trap steam and turn "jacket" soggy. The only places that wrap potatoes are nasty places like Ponderosa. Do yourself a favor, and skip the foil for crispy skins and fluffy tasty potato inside.

            I don't wrap them if doing twice baked...but my kids like to eat the skin...hence, I wrap them.

              Mockingbird is right.....without the foil the skins are crisp and delicious - and great for eating!!!
              Try it - you'll like it.

                I rub mine with olive oil, sprinkle kosher salt on them and bake without foil. If your in a hurry, nuke the potato first then rub with olive oil and salt and place under broiler for a about 5 min on each side.

                  I am with jewels. I like the skin and I don't want it "crisp" dried out, so I foil wrap mine too. I don't dare eat a skin from a Restaurant so they can crisp it all they want!!!

                    This is my way now also! I quit using foil about 6 months ago and my taters are so fluffy!
