  • ISO Side dish for steaks

Any good ideas? I'm in charge of this for a group of people. Someone is already bringing cheesy potatoes. I thought about creamed spinach. Any more ideas and/or recipes?

    I love Bean's 7-Layer Salad .........

    7 Layer Salad

    1/2 bowl shredded lettuce
    1/2 cup chopped Celery
1 green or red pepper, chopped
    1 sweet onion, chopped
1 pkg. frozen peas, cooked & cooled (do first to cool)
    1 pt. mayonnaise
    3 T. sugar
1/2 lb. bacon, fried crisp, or Bacos
    Parmesan cheese

Fill bowl full of shredded lettuce. Make a layer of the next four ingredients. Mix sugar with mayo and spread on top. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, crumble bacon on top. DO NOT STIR. Cover well and let sit overnight in the fridge. Serve without stirring.

I like creamed spinach, but I don't think I'd serve it with cheesy potatoes. The seven layer salad is yummy! steamed broccoli would be nice

Isn't creamed spinach the absolute ONLY side dish for good steaks? Can't see how cheesy potatoes would do anything but compliment!!

So I decided to make polenta (roasted garlic and mascarpone). Wish me luck!

Re: ISO Side dish for steaks

I serve this and people really like it.

                      French Zucchini
                      2 TBL. Butter
                      2 lbs. zucchini(unpeeled), coarsly grated
                      1 tsp. salt
                      3 large eggs
                      1 cup heavy cream
                      1/4 tsp. pepper
                      Swiss cheese
In a large skillet, melt the butter. Add the zucchini and salt, stirring constantly over high hear for about 10 minutes, or until liquid given off evaporates, but zucchini is still moist. Cool for about 10 minutes.
Beat together eggs, cream, and pepper until blended. Stir in zucchini. Throw in some swiss cheese. Turn into a buttered square glass baking dish (8x8). Bake until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand about 10 minutes before cutting into squares.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Serves 6. This freezes well.
