  • Searching for recipe for a fruit salad using canned fruit

I've been looking for a recipe for a fruit salad made with canned fruit - maybe peaches, pineapple, mandarin oranges and then cut bananas - I've had it twice and asked for the recipe but the person doesn't give ou t the recipe. This is very easy - just open cans - I guess I really need to know if you use fruit in heavy syrup and which of the juices do you not discard. Thanks a lot!

When I make fruit salad I usually use the canned fruit in light syrup. I start w/ a can of fruit cocktail, a can of pineapple chunks, and a can of mandarin oranges. I also add fresh grapes, bananas, an apple or two chunked up, and sometimes some fresh orange slices cut up. You can add almost anything you'd like. It is good w/ kiwi, fresh pineapple, coconut, canned pears, canned peaches. I use whatever fruits my family likes, but the sky is the limit!!

I use a can of peach pie filling as the base & add a can of drained fruit cocktail & whatever other canned fruits I have on hand - just make sure to drain the fruit first. Add some fresh grapes or strawberries if available. Sometimes I add a couple handfuls of mini marshmellows. So easy and tastes good too.

          Ambrosia Salad
1 Can Pineapple Chunks(Drain and save)
1 Can Mandrin Oranges (do not Drain)
3 bananas (I cut the banannas up in the pineapple juice so they don't turn dark
Toss together with 1 box of dry Vanilla instant pudding If it seems to thick I use some of the pineapple juice you sliced the bananns in.
You can also add a can of cherry pie filling for color
and I have a friend who adds coconut
          chill and enjoy

This one is good, similar to the above.

              Fruit Salad

              1 lb. can sliced peaches
              1 lb. can sliced pears
              1 lb. can chunk pineapple
              4 bananas, sliced
              1 box frozen strawberries, drained
              1 cup chopped pecans, optional
              1 can peach pie filling

Drain and chop the first 3 ingredients. Add bananas, strawberries, and pecans. Mix well. Fold in peach pie filling, refrigerate several hours, or overnight. Serves well in a trifle bowl.
