    This is what I found -

    The Bubble Room in Captiva, FL serves a luscious white layer cake (like a 1,2,3,4 cake) with orange frosting and a crunch between the layers.

    - They use slivered almonds instead of walnuts.

    Crunch layer

    1 cup graham cracker crumbs
    1/2 cup chopped walnuts
    1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
    1/2 cup butter, melted


    1 pkg. Pillsbury Plus yellow cake mix
    1/2 cup water
    1/2 cup orange juice
    2 tbls. grated orange peel
    3 eggs
    1/3 cup oil


    1 can Pillsbury Ready to Spread vanilla frosting
    1 cup frozen whipped topping, thawed
    3 tbls. grated orange peel
    1 tsp. grated lemon peel

    Combine crunch layer ingredients. Press 1/2 iinto each bottom of 2 greased and floured 8" or 9" pans.

    In a large bowl, blend cake ingredients at low speed until moistened. Beat 2 mins at high speed. Pour into pans.

    Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 mins. Cool 10 mins. Remove from pans and cool completely.

    In small bowl, mix frosting & topping. Fold in lemon & lime peels.

    Place one layer, crunch side up, on plate. Spread with 1/2 cup frosting. Top with remaining layer, crunch side up. Spread top and sides with remaining frosting.

    Needs some work

    The cake and crunch layer are close I think, but the frosting in this recipe is about as far off as it could be. I will have to do some "research" and go to the Bubble Room to taste the cake again. Some of the online restaurant reviews I have seen say that it is an orange-cream cheese frosting. I don't remember a cream cheese flavor, but it could be an ingredient. Also, the cake at the Bubble Room does not have slivered almonds as stated above, but sliced almonds.

          What may be great as a frosting is Gary Solomon's Carrot cake icing. (the one with orange flavor.)

            Gary Solomon's Orange Frosting recipe

            1/2c. butter, softened
            1 (8oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
            1tsp. vanilla
            2c. sifted powdered sugar
            1tsp. orange juice
            1/2tsp. grated orange peel

            Combine butter and cream cheese, beating until light and fluffy. Add vanilla, powdered sugar, orange juice and orange peel; beat until smooth. (You may need to add more powdered sugar to get the desired consistency for spreading.) Spread on cake.I know it sounds like a good bit of work, but it is SOOOOO good.
