Apple Roly-Poly:
Serves 6

Pastry:
1&1/2 c.flour
1 tsp.salt
1/2 c.shortening
5-8 Tbls.cold water
Sift flour with salt.Cut in shortening.Add enough water to make rollable pastry.Roll pastry into a 12"x14" rectangle.
Filling:
3 c.diced apples
1/2 c.brown sugar
1 tsp.cinnamon or nutmeg
1 Tbls.lemon juice
2 Tbls.butter,melted
Combine all ingredients & spread evenly over pastry.Roll up pastry(14" side)like a jelly roll.Pinch edges together to seal.Cut 3 slits in top crust or punch a design of small holes.Place on greased jelly roll pan & bake at 425 degrees for about 40 minutes or til tender.Serve warm with heavy cream or vanilla ice cream.
