    Gingerbread Cake

    1/2 cup shortening
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1/2 cup molasses
    1 1/2 cups flour
    3/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. ginger
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 cup boiling water

    Cream shortening and sugar til light. Add egg and molasses; beat thoroughly. Sift together dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture alternately with boiling water, beating well after each addition. Bake in greased and floured 8x8x2" pan for 35-40 mins. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
